The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
It is named for the spike-like projections that come off of the virus. It looks like the points on a crown or “corona”. The virus was spread through a market in Wuhan China. The sale of wild animals for food is often to blame for corona virus transmission. They believe this one came from a wild animal like this bat and then transferred into another mammal that spread it to humans. In this article, I will be talking about four different countries and how they are handling this massive out breaking going on; mentioning their precautions taken to prevent the spread of this virus.
China
As the first country to be infected with this coronavirus, China had to take precautions immediately. China’s response to the virus included strict social distancing, more than a month of Wuhan and surrounding city-wide lockdowns (all public transportation stopped, only people with special permits would be allowed to be on the street), widespread public surveillance of people, as well as numerous forms of punishment and reward to promote adherence to these measures. People have been blocked from entering or leaving the city by air, rail, or road. They setup checkpoints with thermometers at every street, to monitor civilians walking by.
In Wuhan, they also converted large areas like stadiums, into temporary hospitals and constructed more than a dozen temporary hospitals to accommodate patients with less serious symptoms. The hotels have been shut down completely and even the officials are using the hotels as a corona virus complete isolation. China’s extreme measures of surveillance and quarantine (More than 60 million people under lock down) made their corona virus cases drop significantly, making them the only country to be able to have the outbreak under control.
Italy
Italy right now has the highest number of coronavirus cases outside of china, they rushed to start taking precautions on managing this serious outbreak. Italy’s precautions of the spread of this virus, included forming many tents [Triage Tents] throughout all of Italy, so if any person does feel any symptoms (they feel they might have been infected) they can do into one of these tents, where they will get tested there, if results do come back positive, these tents keep will keep them in isolation to prevent further spread. Italy’s government has decided to close down all schools and universities as well as restaurants and tourist attractions (such as monuments), the government also suggested that all Italians should keep 3 feet (1 meter) distance between each other (no hugging, kissing, handshakes).
Large groupings such events, concerts, and etc. have been forced to shut down for the meantime. Italy’s government also ordered everyone to stay home, advising them to only leave home unless it is absolutely necessary.
EGYPT
Egypt being the first country in the continent of Africa to have the first case of coronavirus, Egypt’s government started to take precautions. Egypt’s ministry of education ordered for students and staff to self-isolate for 2 weeks, as they shut down schools to prevent spread of covid-19.
Egypt’s prime minister has decided to suspend all aviation for 12 days, as airports will be going in lock down, to stop outside coronavirus victims from entering the country. Egypt also order all hotels to do sterilization of their buildings many small scale hotels have been shut down or will be closed within days if they are not shut already. Egypt’s President also allocated 6.3 Billion U.S Dollars as a safety measure all the losses the virus might cause.
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
America being very serious about this outbreak of the coronavirus, USA’s president had to take immediate precautions to avoid a massive spread.
The president of the United States of America declared that all flights from/to Europe to be cancelled [Travel ban on Europe]. Banks in the United States started offering low rate cut (Interest rate cut), to help businesses struggling to pay bills, employee wages, during self-isolation. Airport screenings have been put into place, monitoring people’s temperature, to prevent the spread of disease in the closed space of an aeroplane. Many schools in the United States are going into quarantine, and are starting to use online classrooms with video chat, during this time to prevent large gatherings and spread of the virus.
The American Hotel and Lodging Association, the nation’s leading and biggest alternate job for hotel industry, is projecting 3.9 million loss of job loss with drastically occupancy decline throughout the year.
Chip Rogers, AHLA President and CEO stated that
“The impact to our industry is already more severe than anything we’ve seen before, including September 11th and the great recession of 2008 combined,”
